Method

  1. Step 1. Heat the oil, splutter the cumin seeds, then sauté the onion and garlic until soft.
  2. Step 2. Add the tomato and turmeric and cook for 3–4 minutes.
  3. Step 3. Stir in the dal, all the vegetables and the water and bring to the boil.
  4. Step 4. Simmer, partly covered, for 25–30 minutes until the dal and vegetables are very soft.
  5. Step 5. Cool, then divide into portions for the fridge or freezer.
