Method

  1. Step 1. Heat the ghee in a pressure cooker or heavy pan and splutter the cumin seeds.
  2. Step 2. Add the minced chicken and cook, breaking it up, until it changes colour completely with no pink remaining.
  3. Step 3. Add the rice, dal, vegetables and turmeric, and stir for a minute.
  4. Step 4. Add 4 cups (about 950 ml) water, cover and cook until the rice, dal and chicken are all completely soft and cooked through (about 4 whistles in a pressure cooker, or 25 minutes covered on the stove).
  5. Step 5. Mash lightly, adjust consistency with hot water if needed, and serve warm.
