Method

  1. Step 1. Grind the coconut, dried chillies, coriander seeds and cumin seeds with a little water to a smooth paste.
  2. Step 2. Heat the oil in a pan, fry the onion until soft, then add the ground paste and turmeric and cook for 4–5 minutes.
  3. Step 3. Add about 1.5 cups (360 ml) of water and the tamarind pulp, and bring to a simmer.
  4. Step 4. Slide in the fish pieces and simmer gently for 10–12 minutes until the fish flakes easily and is cooked through.
  5. Step 5. Adjust seasoning and serve hot with steamed rice.
