OHSS occurs when the ovaries respond excessively to stimulation medication, causing swelling, fluid shifts and abdominal discomfort. Most cases are mild, but severe OHSS is a medical emergency. Contact your clinic urgently if you develop rapid abdominal swelling, severe pain, persistent vomiting, reduced urination or shortness of breath.
