Paying for fertility treatment in Canada
In Canada, public support for fertility treatment is set province by province, with many costs met privately or through workplace benefits.
Provincial and territorial programmes
Some provinces fund or subsidise parts of fertility treatment, and the rules differ in each one. Check your provincial or territorial health ministry for what is currently offered.
Private payment
Costs not covered publicly are paid directly to the clinic. Ask for a written estimate covering treatment, medication, storage and any additional procedures.
Workplace benefits and tax credits
Some employer health plans include fertility medication or treatment limits, and certain medical expenses may be claimable at tax time. Confirm both with your plan administrator and the Canada Revenue Agency.
