Fertility basics
Conception refers to the establishment of a pregnancy, beginning with fertilisation of the egg by sperm and continuing through the embryo's journey to implantation in the uterine lining. In everyday use, "trying to conceive" refers to the period a couple is attempting pregnancy, whether naturally or with fertility treatment.
