A fresh embryo transfer takes place in the same treatment cycle as egg retrieval, without the embryo being frozen and stored in between. It is one of two main approaches to embryo transfer, the other being a frozen embryo transfer using an embryo that was vitrified in an earlier cycle. Whether a fresh or frozen transfer is recommended depends on factors such as the endometrium's readiness, hormone levels after stimulation, OHSS risk and whether genetic testing is being performed; this is a clinical decision made with your fertility team.
