Human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG) is a form of gonadotropin medicine that provides both follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinising hormone (LH) activity. It is one of the options a fertility clinic may use during ovarian stimulation for IVF, ICSI or ovulation induction, alongside or instead of purified FSH preparations, depending on the individual stimulation protocol. The choice between hMG and other gonadotropins is made by the treating clinic based on ovarian reserve, prior response to treatment and other clinical factors. As with all stimulation medicines, response is monitored with blood tests and ultrasound, and the clinic manages timing and any dose adjustments. It should be used only as directed by the prescribing clinic. hMG products are prescription-only medicines in India, regulated by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).
