Monitoring scans are ultrasound examinations performed at intervals during ovarian stimulation to track the number and size of developing follicles and to check the thickness and appearance of the endometrial lining. They are usually combined with blood tests measuring hormones such as oestradiol to give a fuller picture of the ovarian response. The results of monitoring scans guide decisions about adjusting medicine, timing the trigger injection, or, in some cases, cancelling or converting the cycle if the response is unexpectedly high or low. The frequency of monitoring scans varies between clinics and depends on how a person's ovaries are responding.
