Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is produced by the pituitary gland to regulate the thyroid gland's output of thyroid hormones. Both an underactive thyroid (raised TSH) and an overactive thyroid (low TSH) can disrupt ovulation, menstrual regularity and early pregnancy, so TSH is a routine test in fertility evaluation and is usually rechecked once pregnancy is confirmed, since the target range is tighter in pregnancy. Thyroid disorders identified on testing are managed by a physician or endocrinologist, alongside fertility care.
