Method

  1. Step 1. Boil the yam in the water for 15 minutes until beginning to soften.
  2. Step 2. Add the blended tomato, onion, palm oil and pepper if using, and cook for 10 minutes.
  3. Step 3. Mash some of the yam against the side of the pot to thicken the porridge.
  4. Step 4. Add the smoked fish and simmer for 5 minutes until piping hot throughout.
  5. Step 5. Stir in the ugu for the final 2 minutes and serve in small bowls.
