This talk is about grief after miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal loss, and the support that exists around it in South Africa. Grief differs between people, and partners often grieve differently from each other and at different times. There is no fixed timetable, and feelings can return during later fertility treatment, a subsequent pregnancy, or around dates such as a due date or anniversary. Nothing about that is a failure to cope. Counselling, peer support and bereavement organisations help many people, but none of it is compulsory — some people find their support elsewhere.
