Birth registration

Registering a birth with the state registry of births, deaths and marriages.

Legal and rights

Every birth must be registered with the relevant state or territory registry, and the birth certificate records the legal parents. For donor-conceived children some states add a notation indicating that further information is available, supporting later access to origin information.
