Hirsutism is coarse hair on the face, chest or abdomen caused by raised or more active androgens, most often in PCOS. It is one of the clinical features used in diagnosis. Treatment addresses the hormonal cause and may include cosmetic measures; it is not itself a barrier to fertility.
