Genetics
Spinal muscular atrophy affects the nerves controlling movement and is one of the three conditions covered by the Medicare-rebated carrier screening panel, alongside cystic fibrosis and fragile X. If both partners are carriers, PGT-M or prenatal diagnosis can be discussed with a genetic counsellor.
