Preconception screening

Canadian fertility clinics usually check rubella and varicella immunity, hepatitis B and C, HIV and syphilis, blood group, ferritin and thyroid function, and offer carrier screening. Immunisations such as rubella must be given before conception, not during pregnancy. Screening protects the pregnancy, the laboratory and, in donor or surrogacy arrangements, everyone involved.
