Fertility basics
Secondary infertility applies when there has been a previous conception — including a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy — but a further pregnancy is not happening. Age, new medical conditions, changes in sperm quality, weight change and tubal damage after infection or surgery are common contributors. A previous pregnancy does not rule out a treatable cause, so the same investigations still apply.
