Additional or unexpected treatment costs

Additional or unexpected costs (sometimes referred to as 'hidden costs') can arise during fertility treatment when a plan changes — for example, extra monitoring visits, a switch to a freeze-all cycle, treatment for ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), a repeat frozen embryo transfer, or medicines beyond what was originally estimated. These are not usually included in a headline package quote because they depend on how an individual patient responds. To reduce the risk of surprise bills, ask your clinic in advance what circumstances commonly lead to extra charges, request a written estimate that separates 'included' from 'possible additional' costs, and keep a record of every invoice and consent form as treatment progresses. Building a financial contingency into your planning is more realistic than assuming the first quoted figure will be the final one.
