Regular or heavy alcohol consumption is associated with reduced fertility in both women and men, and with poorer outcomes during fertility treatment, while pregnancy itself is best approached with no alcohol, since no safe level has been established. Evidence on lighter or occasional drinking and fertility is less clear-cut, but many clinics recommend reducing or avoiding alcohol while trying to conceive or undergoing treatment. Be open with your fertility team about your alcohol use, since this helps them give relevant advice and does not affect the quality of your care. If cutting down feels difficult, ask your doctor for support rather than managing it alone.
