Ayurveda and other traditional medicine systems practised in India are used by some people alongside, or instead of, conventional fertility investigation and treatment. Traditional use of a herb, formulation, or practice over a long period is not the same as scientific proof that it improves fertility, and rigorous evidence for most traditional fertility remedies is limited. Ayurvedic fertility treatments, herbal fertility supplements, and other integrative fertility care approaches can carry real risks in a fertility context: some herbal products may interact with prescribed fertility medicines, some are not established as safe in pregnancy, and product quality and ingredient content are not always consistent or independently verified. These are not reasons to judge anyone for using traditional medicine; they are reasons for open, non-judgemental conversation with your treatment team. If you use, or are considering using, any Ayurvedic or other traditional treatment, tell your fertility doctor and any other treating clinician exactly what you are taking, including product names, so they can check for interactions and help you make an informed, safe decision alongside your fertility care.
