Chromopertubation is a technique performed during laparoscopy in which a coloured dye is injected through the cervix and observed as it passes through the uterus and out of the fallopian tubes. Free spill of dye seen through the tubal ends confirms the tubes are open, while absence of spill suggests a blockage. Because it is done under direct vision during surgery, chromopertubation can be more precise than HSG in confirming tubal patency and pinpointing the exact location of a blockage, and is often used when laparoscopy is already planned for other reasons.
