Chronic endometritis is a persistent, low-grade inflammation of the endometrium, often caused by a bacterial infection that does not necessarily produce obvious symptoms. It is diagnosed through endometrial biopsy with specific staining or, in some centres, hysteroscopy showing typical changes in the uterine lining. Chronic endometritis has been linked in some studies to implantation failure and pregnancy loss, though the evidence on routine testing and treatment benefit for fertility outcomes is still developing. When identified, it is usually treated based on clinical assessment rather than empirical antibiotics without a diagnosis.
