Haemorrhagic cyst

A haemorrhagic cyst is a functional ovarian cyst, often a corpus luteum or follicular cyst, into which bleeding has occurred. It can cause sudden pelvic pain, particularly around ovulation or the luteal phase, and has a distinctive appearance on ultrasound. Most haemorrhagic cysts resolve on their own within a few weeks and are managed with monitoring and pain relief. Severe or persistent pain, heavy internal bleeding or signs of ovarian torsion need urgent medical assessment.
