No embryo for transfer

Occasionally, an IVF or ICSI cycle does not result in any embryo that is suitable for transfer or freezing, whether because of fertilisation failure, embryos stopping development before reaching a usable stage, or, where PGT-A testing has been used, all embryos being found to have a chromosomal abnormality incompatible with a viable pregnancy. This is one of the more difficult outcomes in fertility treatment. The reasons vary between individuals and can relate to egg quality, sperm quality, or factors not fully identifiable with current testing; in many cases, a clear single cause cannot be confirmed. The clinical team will usually offer a review consultation to discuss what happened during that specific cycle and whether adjustments to future treatment, further testing, or a different approach might be considered. This outcome can be emotionally difficult, and clinics in India generally have access to counselling support that can be requested directly, in addition to peer support organisations for people going through fertility treatment.
