Proximal tubal obstruction is a blockage where the fallopian tube joins the uterus. It can be a true structural blockage or a temporary spasm/debris effect seen during an HSG, so a single abnormal HSG finding is sometimes rechecked before concluding the tube is truly blocked. Causes include prior infection, endometrial tuberculosis, and scarring after uterine procedures. Management depends on the cause and whether both tubes are affected, and may involve further imaging, laparoscopy, or proceeding directly to IVF.
Also known as: cornual blockage
