A thin endometrium refers to a uterine lining that measures thinner than typically expected on ultrasound around the time of ovulation or planned embryo transfer. A very thin lining is associated with a lower chance of implantation, though pregnancies do occur outside the usual reference ranges, and thickness is only one of several factors assessed. Causes can include previous uterine surgery or infection causing scarring (such as Asherman syndrome), chronic endometritis, poor blood flow, or the effects of certain medicines. Approaches to improve endometrial thickness vary between clinics and the evidence for many add-on treatments is limited, so it is reasonable to ask your clinician what evidence supports a suggested approach in your case.
Also known as: thin lining, low endometrial thickness
