Tubal patency

Tubal patency means the fallopian tube is open, not blocked or scarred shut. It is usually checked with a hysterosalpingogram (HSG), saline infusion sonography, or laparoscopy with dye test, as part of a standard infertility work-up. A tube can look patent on imaging but still function poorly if the internal lining or fimbrial end is damaged, so patency alone does not guarantee normal fertility.
