Tubo-ovarian abscess

A tubo-ovarian abscess is a collection of pus involving the fallopian tube and ovary together, usually arising as a complication of severe or untreated pelvic inflammatory disease. It is a medical emergency that needs prompt hospital assessment, and may require antibiotics, drainage, or surgery. After recovery, the affected tube and ovary are often left significantly scarred, which can reduce ovarian reserve on that side and contribute to tubal-factor infertility.
