Male fertility
PESA uses a fine needle through the scrotal skin to aspirate fluid from the epididymis, the coiled tube where sperm mature. It is used when sperm are being made normally but cannot get out, for example after vasectomy or with a blockage. It is quick, usually done under local anaesthetic or sedation, and the sperm are used with ICSI.
