South African healthcare & funding
Fertility treatment in the state sector is provided at a limited number of academic hospitals, with strict entry criteria, long waiting lists and fees calculated on the Uniform Patient Fee Schedule according to income. Basic investigations and ovulation induction are more widely available than IVF. Referral is usually from a clinic or district hospital through to a regional or tertiary unit.
