Method

  1. Step 1. Soften the onion, carrot and celery in the oil for 10 minutes.
  2. Step 2. Add the garlic, cumin and coriander and stir for a minute.
  3. Step 3. Add the split peas, barley, potato and stock and bring to the boil.
  4. Step 4. Simmer, partly covered, for about an hour until the peas have broken down and the barley is soft.
  5. Step 5. Season with black pepper and serve with wholewheat bread.
