Chicken sosaties with vegetables

Sosaties are marinated skewers with Cape Malay roots, usually threaded with dried apricots and onion. Lamb is the best-known version; this one uses chicken and adds peppers so there are vegetables on the skewer too.

Method

  1. Step 1. Mix the curry powder, turmeric, vinegar, jam, garlic and oil into a marinade.
  2. Step 2. Toss the chicken through it, cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  3. Step 3. Thread the chicken onto skewers alternately with apricots, onion wedges, pepper and a bay leaf.
  4. Step 4. Cook over medium braai coals or under a hot grill for 15–20 minutes, turning often.
  5. Step 5. Cut into the thickest cube to check the juices run clear and there is no pink meat left.
  6. Step 6. Rest for a few minutes and serve with a green salad, rice or roosterkoek.
