Anovulation means ovulation is not happening. It commonly shows as absent, very irregular or unusually light periods, and is confirmed with a mid-luteal progesterone test. PCOS, thyroid disease, high prolactin, low body weight and heavy exercise are common causes. Most are treatable, often with ovulation induction once the underlying cause is addressed.
