Preconception health

Health steps taken in the months before trying for a baby.

Lifestyle and wellbeing

Preconception care covers folic acid and iodine, immunity checks, cervical screening, reviewing medicines, alcohol and smoking, weight and activity, and managing conditions such as diabetes or thyroid disease. Australian guidance suggests starting at least three months before trying, and it applies to both partners.
