There is no set number of cycles that is right. People stop for medical, financial, emotional or relationship reasons, and pausing is not the same as giving up. Counselling before deciding helps, as does agreeing in advance what your limit is. Other paths — donor conception, surrogacy, adoption, permanent care or a life without children — remain valid choices.
