Transvaginal ultrasound

An internal ultrasound using a slim probe placed in the vagina.

Testing

A transvaginal scan gives a much clearer view of the ovaries and endometrium than an abdominal scan, so it is standard for follicle tracking during treatment. It should not be painful, though it can be uncomfortable; you can ask to insert the probe yourself, request a chaperone, or stop at any point.

Also known as: internal ultrasound, TVUS, internal scan
