Premature ovarian insufficiency

POI is diagnosed with irregular or absent periods plus raised FSH on two occasions. Causes include genetic conditions, autoimmune disease, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery, though many cases are unexplained. Hormone therapy is important for bone and cardiovascular health, and donor eggs are the usual route to pregnancy, with occasional spontaneous ovulation.
