Assisted reproductive technology (ART) covers procedures used to achieve pregnancy by means other than sexual intercourse, including IVF, ICSI, IUI, gamete and embryo donation, and embryo storage. In India, ART is defined and regulated by the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021 and its Rules, which set requirements for who may provide these procedures, how clinics and banks must be registered, and how consent and records must be handled. Any clinic or bank offering ART services in India must be registered under this framework. Patients can check a provider's registration on the National ART & Surrogacy Registry before starting treatment.
