Cancelled IVF cycle

A cancelled IVF cycle is one that is stopped before reaching its intended endpoint, such as egg retrieval or embryo transfer, based on findings during monitoring. Reasons include a poor ovarian response with too few follicles developing, an excessive response raising OHSS risk, premature ovulation, or a change in a person's health during treatment. Cycle cancellation is a clinical safety decision made to avoid proceeding with a cycle that is unlikely to succeed or that carries a higher risk to the patient, rather than a sign that treatment has failed permanently. The treating team usually discusses the reason for cancellation and what, if anything, might be adjusted for a future attempt.
