Fertility basics
Fecundability is the probability that a fertile couple conceives in any one menstrual cycle, with regular unprotected intercourse timed around ovulation. It is highest in the mid-20s and declines gradually with the woman's age, particularly after the mid-30s. Fecundability is used in research and counselling to explain why conception can reasonably take several cycles even for a fertile couple, rather than implying a problem after just one or two attempts.
