Reproductive age refers to the years during which a person is biologically capable of conceiving — from puberty through to menopause for women, and for most of adult life for men, though sperm quality also declines with age. Female fertility declines gradually from the late 20s and more steeply after the mid-30s, driven mainly by falling egg number and quality, which is why age is central to fertility counselling and treatment planning in India.
