Grief after pregnancy loss can follow a loss at any stage, from a very early biochemical pregnancy to a later miscarriage, and its intensity does not always match how far along the pregnancy was. Partners may grieve differently from each other, and both deserve acknowledgement and support, whether or not they were the one carrying the pregnancy. There is no fixed timeline for grief, and feelings can resurface around due dates, future pregnancies or subsequent fertility treatment. Speaking with a counsellor experienced in pregnancy loss, or connecting with others who have had similar experiences, can help; your fertility clinic can usually help arrange this kind of support if you would find it useful.
