Hepatitis B is a virus that infects the liver and can be transmitted sexually, from mother to baby, or through blood. It is one of the standard infections screened for before ART treatment in India, so that appropriate precautions can be taken in the clinic and laboratory and, where relevant, so mother-to-child transmission can be reduced with medical care during and after pregnancy. Having hepatitis B does not usually prevent someone from having fertility treatment, but the clinic will plan testing, handling of samples, and pregnancy care around it.
