HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) affects the immune system and is screened for as a standard part of pre-treatment testing at Indian ART clinics, in line with National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) guidance and the ART (Regulation) Act framework. Screening is done for both partners before treatment such as IUI or IVF begins. A positive result does not automatically exclude someone from fertility care, but it does change how treatment is planned — including precautions in the laboratory, sperm-washing techniques for IUI/IVF where indicated, and coordination with an HIV treatment specialist — to protect the health of the patient, partner, embryology staff and any future child.
