Hyperthyroidism is an overactive thyroid gland producing more thyroid hormone than the body needs, diagnosed with blood tests including thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). It can cause menstrual irregularity and affect ovulation, and untreated or poorly controlled hyperthyroidism in pregnancy carries risks to both mother and baby. Treatment is managed by an endocrinologist or physician alongside the fertility team, since some medicines used for hyperthyroidism need to be adjusted or substituted before conception under medical guidance.
