Oestradiol support in frozen embryo transfer cycles

In a medicated (hormone-controlled) frozen embryo transfer cycle, oestradiol medicine is given to help thicken and prepare the uterine lining (endometrium) before an embryo is transferred, in the absence of a natural ovulation cycle. It is usually followed by progesterone support once the lining has reached a suitable thickness on ultrasound monitoring. The clinic decides between a medicated cycle and a natural or modified-natural cycle based on individual ovulation pattern, prior response and clinic protocol. Oestradiol may be given as tablets, patches or other preparations depending on availability and clinical judgement; the treating team manages timing and monitoring with scans and blood tests, and any concerns about the lining or bleeding should be reported to the clinic promptly rather than managed independently. These medicines are prescription-only in India under CDSCO regulation.
