Ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) involves surgically removing part or all of an ovary and freezing the tissue, with the aim of later re-implanting it to restore hormone function and, potentially, fertility. It is considered mainly for patients who cannot wait for ovarian stimulation before urgent cancer treatment, or who are prepubertal, and it is offered in only a small number of specialised Indian centres because it remains a more limited and less established option than egg or embryo freezing. OTC does not guarantee restored fertility, and its use and re-implantation are decided case by case with the treating oncology and fertility teams under the same ART clinic/bank framework that applies to other preservation techniques in India.
