Fertility basics
Primary infertility describes a couple who have never achieved a pregnancy despite at least a year of regular, unprotected intercourse. Causes may lie with either or both partners, or remain unexplained after full evaluation. The evaluation pathway — history, examination, ovulation assessment, semen analysis and tubal/uterine imaging — is the same whether infertility is primary or secondary.
