Under the ART (Regulation) Act, 2021, an ART clinic or ART bank must apply to the Appropriate Authority for registration before starting operations, and must renew that registration periodically. The Appropriate Authority can suspend or cancel a registration where a clinic or bank fails to meet the conditions of the Act and Rules, for example around consent, record keeping or reporting. A lapsed, suspended or cancelled registration means a facility is not currently authorised to provide ART services, even if it continues to operate. Checking current status on the National ART & Surrogacy Registry, rather than relying on a certificate seen previously, is the reliable way to confirm this.
