Telling a child about donor conception

Many parents who conceive using donor eggs, donor sperm or a donor embryo think carefully about whether and how to tell their child about their donor conception, and at what age. There is no legal requirement in India to disclose this to a child, and families vary in their approach; fertility counsellors can help parents think through timing, language, and how to respond to a child's questions as they grow. Because India's ART framework treats donor identity as confidential rather than giving donor-conceived people a right to identifying information later, conversations with a child about donor conception in India generally focus on the fact and circumstances of donor conception rather than promising future contact with or identification of the donor.
